back in the saddle
I’m back to practice, just shy of two weeks from getting the sutures out.
I still feel a little shaky, probably because the injury was so recent (the ER still hasn’t billed me). I’m still not sure if I can trust my body just yet, and my right hip is still hurting (I landed pretty hard on my hip, but the chin was the big issue), so I’m pulling back and away with my hits.

(Stitches are out! You can’t see it if my face is in neutral, but if I make Jim-Halpert-face like such, it comes right up.)

update
Went to the dentist, teeth are not broken. Everything looks fine and is either very minor damage from the fall or is from my retainer (looseness around the roots; my teeth were already shifting so I’m going to say it’s from that). Seriously, thank goodness for my mouthguard.
Stitches are coming out Thursday, and we’ll see if I need to get a tetanus shot. (The warehouse is pretty...

derby milestone
I split my chin during the scrimmage today (my second jam! so damn bummed, I really wanted to play!). I’m pretty sure it was an illegal hit (that she didn’t get called for), but what can you do.
So I got to go to the ER in my derby clothes (we took off all of my pads and skates), Sharpie arms and all. First time for everything, and thank goodness it was for something relatively minor...
I just got dumped via text message two days before my birthday.

rainy day offskates
It started pouring rain on Tuesday.
Our warehouse roof is not in the best of condition, so we’ve been doing offskates practices since Tuesday night, including cancelling a scrimmage yesterday (wah). But it looks like it’s clearing up a little, so hopefully we’ll be able to skate this week. (I won’t be able to skate on Tuesday due to work, so I’ll be back on skates on...
Where have I been?
We’re in the full swing of things, season-wise — we had our first bout in February, and we have our next bout in three weeks (the 31st).
I’ve been going to practice a lot — I’m exceeding minimum attendance, so I’m doing all right for myself. That’s been the biggest difference since last season. That and working out outside of derby;...

Anonymous asked: Re: the shoulder support, I dislocated my shoulder back in July, then had surgery in October. In the interim (still playing derby, of course), I found the Bauerfeind Omotrain shoulder support. LOVED it. It was much less obstructive than other braces appeared to be and was super supportive. Of course, it's going to matter what kind of support you need, but I loved it. Supportsusa has good info...
rise and shine!
Back in season! That means twice a week I’m getting up at 6:30 for a 7 am workout, Mondays and Fridays.
Of course as I’m making breakfast and having tea and checking the internets before working out, I’m like, why do I not always get up at 6:30?
Because I really, really love sleeping.
Also, it’s pouring rain outside, and I had to make my bed while it was still warm. And...

I AM NOT A COACH OR A TRAINER.
You are welcome to ask me questions, but the best person to ask is always going to be the person who can see what you are doing and give you the advice (and encouragement!) you need in person.
Do not be embarrassed, do not be scared, do not be nervous to ask for help. Your coaches are there to help you become a better skater. Asking for help is not a weakness,...

…a shoulder wrap/brace that they like? (mylifeintraffic, I’m looking at you!)
I fell on my left shoulder back in October and it’s still a little bit tweaky (I went for a hit, my feet went out from under me, I pinned my left arm under myself, and then I got sent to the box for a low block to add insult to injury).
I’ll probably just end up KT-taping it, but I’m...
